Australia's Aviation State Safety Program (SSP), as required by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), demonstrates the aviation safety management system as managed by Australia. It sets out Australia’s regulation and activities aimed at improving aviation safety. The SSP provides the monitoring and governance framework within which operators and service providers establish and maintain a Safety Management System (SMS).
An independent statutory authority since 1995, CASA is responsible the safety regulation of civil aviation operations in Australia, and Australian aircraft operating outside Australian territory. It also provides safety education and training programs.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is Australia’s prime agency for the independent investigation of civil aviation accidents, incidents and safety deficiencies.
