TNIP Compact

The key aim of TNIP Compact is to provide the non expert with access to aircraft noise information in as user friendly a manner as possible.

TNIP Compact is delivered on an autostarting CD. It is preloaded with a number of data files which the user can select from the main menu. Once the files are loaded the user is presented with a screen showing the selected noise contours superimposed on an image of the airport. The user is then able to investigate how the contours have been generated by selecting either individually, or in groups, components such as the flight tracks, aircraft type, runway, etc and then seeing the number of movements that have been allocated to the selected components.

If one particular operation is selected Single Event Noise Contours can be generated for that event—these contours can be superimposed on cumulative contours.

The process for obtaining a copy of TNIP Compact is the same as for TNIP. TNIP Compact is freeware and a copy of the TNIP Compact demonstration CD can be obtained by contacting Dave Southgate at david.southgate@infrastructure.gov.au. This CD contains the full TNIP Compact executable and a number of configuration and demonstration data files. A copy of the contents of the CD for the latest version can be downloaded from the link below.

This latest version incorporates the following changes:

  • the v2.3b update fixes the problems with the airport configuration editor and a minor bug that produced a range check error when running some modules.
  • TNIP Compact v2.3 introduces a change to the configuration for the contour module and some minor bug fixes.
  • a set up editor which leads the user through the process of setting up TNIP Compact.
  • two new modules called the Flight Path Movements Sensitivity and Respite Sensitivity modules which let the user see the range in aircraft movements data over more than one data set;
  • the ability to change the track colours in the contour modules and to save the new colours in the tnipairport.cfg file;
  • the ability to display only tracks exceeding a certain number of operations at start-up in the contour modules by specifying this number in the tnipairport.cfg file (previously all tracks with more than zero operations were shown);
  • the ability to specify in the tnipairport.cfg file that all subtracks are to be displayed at start-up in the contour modules (previously only the spine tracks were shown at start-up); and
  • corrections of several minor bugs in the previous version.

It is very straightforward to set up a TNIP Compact CD for any airport that has carried out a study using the United States Federal Aviation Administration’s Integrated Noise Model (INM). This is explained in the TNIP Compact Setup Manual.
