Land Use Planning

Land use planning around airports is primarily the responsibility of local governments under guidance from state and territory planning law and policy. Effective land use planning is important in minimising incompatible activities which can occur in the vicinity of airports.

The department has provided submissions on planning proposals that it became aware of that may have an impact or be impacted by airport operations.

Australian Noise Exposure Forecast (ANEF) Development Process

Under the Airports Act 1996 (the Act) a Federal airport lessee is obliged to review (and revise where necessary) the airport's Master Plan every five years. It is a requirement of the Act that a Master Plan includes an endorsed ANEF.

Ministerial Direction M37/99 from 3 May 1999 prescribes that Airservices Australia is responsible for the endorsement of ANEFs for all Australian airports. Following changes to the Act in 2007, it is a requirement that ANEFs for leased federal airports are endorsed in a manner approved by the Minister.

The following manner of endorsement was approved by Minister Albanese on 3 April 2008.
